ADMISSION & ENROLLMENT

We offer a variety of programs designed to prepare you for success in the beauty industry, including Makeup Artistry, Hair Styling, Esthetics, and Nail Technology. Each program is taught by experienced professionals who are passionate about helping you master your craft.

Along with your completed application, you must be aged 17 years or older, have a high school diploma or GED, and pass a criminal background check. Criminal convictions may affect a student’s ability to be licensed, certified, or registered. Upon approval of the primary requirements, final stage applicants will be invited to a formal interview with our panel of instructors. Accepted students will be notified through email and U.S. Post with orientation information.

CocoTea Beauty Academy is a first-of-its-kind institution. There is no other state-approved, private career school in Maryland that offers an extensive makeup artistry curriculum along with the other three traditional disciplines. Once you select your major, each program is designed to include six electives from the remaining majors so that you get a well-rounded education. Our graduates will leave with not only skills, but also confidence, professionalism, and a strong industry network.

Applying is easy! Simply submit your application online or schedule a private camp tour and admissions consultation. The application fee is $35 payable via cash or major credit/ debit cards. We keep class sizes intentionally small, so securing your place early is recommended.

PROGRAMS

Upon successful completion, you will be fully prepared for your state licensing exam and leave with a portfolio of your work, giving you a competitive edge in the beauty industry. Our curriculum not only covers every service requirement but also incorporates mock exams, state-specific preparation, and one-on-one coaching.

Program lengths vary according to your chosen specialty and state requirements. For example, the Hair Program requires 1500 hours, while the Nail Program requires 400 hours. We will provide a full breakdown during your admissions consultation.

Yes. The Esthetics and Nail Programs are offered part-time during the evenings. The Makeup and Hair programs are offered during the day. For all programs, no classes are held on weekends to allow student/ instructor work outside of school.

Yes. Current working professionals who would like to renew their license may opt to take our specialized Continuing Education course that occurs every 3 months. Additionally, we offer select courses a la carte.
CocoTea Beauty Academy graduates can enroll in any continuing education courses at a discounted rate for the first 4 years following graduation, and unreduced thereafter, to meet individual licensing requirements.

Our class sizes are intentionally kept small to allow for the proper support and attention you deserve. Our admissions process is incredibly selective, as we only admit the most promising and passionate candidates. Our core courses are going to have a hallmark 3:1 student-to-teacher ratio, with elective courses expanding slightly to 7:1 as students from other programs or continuing education will join you.

Due to the hands-on nature of our learning environment, we do not offer online or hybrid courses at this time.
POLICIES & EXPECTATIONS

Our programs are immersive, and consistent attendance is key to mastering your craft. In accordance with MD State regulations, “A student shall have a minimum attendance rate of 80% of the total program to qualify for graduation.” Please note that absences, inclusive of leaving early and arriving late, all equate to time missed, and therefore will count towards an attendance penalty. We work closely with students to ensure scheduling supports their success.

Academy students are expected to wear 100% all-black smart ensembles that speak to artist's personality, yet fully maintain professionalism at all times. Clothing with logos, sayings, decals, buttons, and/ or exposed erogenous zones are not permitted. Offensive tattoos must be concealed. Footwear should be all black, comfortable, and weather-appropriate. Gold, silver, or black hardware and jewelry is permitted. Wearing light makeup is not mandatory, but is welcomed. Hair should be well-groomed and off of the face.
Esthetic students will be given 2 lab jackets during orientation to wear during labs/ practicals. It is student's responsibility to maintain the cleanliness and integrity of the jacket, ensuring it is with you for every day of class. Jackets can be stored in the classroom for safekeeping, but should be taken home for cleaning periodically. Personalizations such as Your name and title can be added to jackets at student discretion.
The student dress code should be adhered to whenever operating in an official capacity of the Academy.

Yes. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of aspiring beauty professionals at all stages of life, including those balancing work or family commitments. The Esthetics and Nail Programs are offered part-time, during the evenings. The Makeup and Hair programs are offered during the day to allow for evening clients or events. With all programs, nights and weekends are free year-round to allow work outside of school.

Life happens, and we will guide you through the process of pausing and resuming your training without losing your progress. If a student will miss more than 80% of total instruction due to an unforeseen medical emergency, he/she/they will be deemed “Displaced” and placed on a top-candidate list for the next enrollment period. All tuition paid will be retained and transferred to the next enrollment period.

Missed assignments must be submitted within 3 calendar days of the due date for a letter grade penalty, unless otherwise stated by the Instructor.

At CocoTea Beauty Academy, we believe every hour of training matters. The hours you complete here not only shape your growth as an artist, but also count toward your state licensure requirements. Because of this, attendance and punctuality are essential.
Notifying the Academy
If you will be absent or late, you must notify the Academy before the start of class.
You must speak directly to a Lead Instructor or the Director of Office Administration. Messages through classmates or social media will not be accepted.
Excused vs. Unexcused Absences
Excused absences (with documentation) may include illness, medical appointments, family emergencies, or court obligations.
All other missed time will be considered unexcused.
Making Up Hours
Missed hours may be made up only through scheduled makeup sessions or approved practice hours, coordinated in advance with an instructor or administrator.
A student may not exceed 8 makeup hours per month.
All hours must be made up prior to graduation in order to remain eligible for licensure.
Tardiness
Students who arrive more than 15 minutes late will be marked tardy.
Three tardies equal one hour of absence.
Excessive Absences
Students who miss more than 20% of their scheduled hours may be placed on attendance probation. Continued absences may result in dismissal from the program.

Our tuition varies by program and reflects the quality of education, tools, and career support you will receive. We will provide a transparent, detailed breakdown during your admissions consultation.

You will receive a diverse portfolio to showcase your best coursework, as well as a luxury, professional kit filled with top-tier tools, products, and resources - carefully chosen to prepare you for both training and future clients. Tuition also includes your licensing exam fee and required textbooks.

The total cost of matriculation through your chosen program is due 30 days upon the completion of your Enrollment Agreement via certified check, wire transfer, or disbursements through your student loan service provider. Payment plans are negotiated directly between the student and the lender.

Yes, we offer guidance on securing financial aid, grants, and/or scholarships for those who qualify. Student loan options that are specifically geared towards Career Schools are offered through private lenders, such as Sallie Mae and Ascent. These programs offer flexible repayment plans and funding for 100% of your education -including tuition, fees, books, and supplies!

Yes. The student lounge is designed for relaxing on breaks or between classes, complete with a luxury coffee bar and vending machines for quick grabs.

Yes. For certain course assessments, students will be required to bring a friend or family member to act as a model while you perform the required services and techniques. Friends or family members must bring a license or passport to be admitted by the Director of Office Administration and given an ID badge to display at all times while on campus.

Yes. Every October starting in 2028 the Academy will host a Homecoming event for alumni to come back, celebrate their accomplishments, network with industry peers.
CAREER SUPPORT

Upon the successful completion of your chosen Program, students will meet all requirements to then apply for professional licensing within the Maryland State Board of Cosmetology. You will be allowed to register for the exam once the Board of Cosmetologists has confirmed your education hours.

After meeting Maryland cosmetology or esthetician license requirements, you are now officially ready to start your own business, or work in approved salons, beauty shops, luxury spas, or agencies all over Maryland. As your coursework will include electives such as salon management, building your own business, and budgeting, you will be prepared to succeed at entrepreneurship. Please keep in mind, your initial license only lasts two years. To keep working in Maryland, you must renew your MD esthetics or cosmetology license every two years by your original licensure date.

Upon the completion of your chosen program, you will have an exit interview with the Director of Human Resources and the school founder to discuss and plan your next steps. While we do not offer career placement specifically, you will receive access to an exclusive network of industry professionals, strong references, a diverse portfolio, and the power to spearhead a successful career as your own beauty boss.
