We are proud to introduce Maryland’s first state-approved Makeup Artistry program — a groundbreaking opportunity for aspiring artists to receive formal training in one of the beauty industry’s most creative and in-demand fields!
Designed to go beyond basic beauty techniques, this program immerses students in niche specialties rarely taught in traditional cosmetology or esthetics schools- including bridal makeup, editorial looks for print and media, and advanced special effects for film and theater. Until now, no formal training environment in Maryland has offered such a comprehensive, state-recognized curriculum dedicated exclusively to makeup!

Learn the fundamentals of prosthetic application and special makeup effects. Topics include the creation of simulated injuries, facial hair, aging, and bald caps.

Provides the theory of bacteriology and sanitation. Topics include the types of bacteria, sanitation procedures, and razor shaving. Upon completion, the student should be able to identify types of bacteria and methods of sanitation.

Learn the appropriate techniques for generational makeup applications. Topics include makeup for youth, teens, young adults, adults, and seniors.

Learn techniques for bridal makeup consultation, application, and presentation that ensure a thoughtful client experience, application longevity, customization, and timelessness.

Discover your uniqueness as an artist in a saturated industry. With tools and guidance, students will learn to capitalize on personal strengths, properly set goals, and effectively communicate with their target audience visually, verbally, and digitally.

Students learn how to structure pricing for maximum profit with respect to the industry and market average, organize and complete business taxes, manage inventory needs.

Understanding talent and passion must be met with professionalism for career longevity. Students will learn self-presentation, conflict resolution, email etiquette, social media etiquette, and behavior in public spaces.

Focuses on three major areas of color understanding: 1) the properties of color including hue, value, and intensity, 2) the science and structures of color and color relationships, and 3) the psychology of color and its expressive and communicative capacities.

The structure and meaning of enforceable contracts, as it relates to the beauty industry. Students learn how to properly draft and enforce contracts and policies for smooth business operation.

Uncover corrective tools and techniques that target common areas of concern during makeup application. Topics include remedying discoloration, smile lines, tears, sweat, as well as contouring.

Teaches students all areas of Commercial & Editorial Makeup application. The course explores the unique environment of commercial and editorial shoots, how to work under natural and controlled lighting conditions, and what it’s like being on a photographic set.

From the all-important basics of analyzing skin types and face shapes, selecting appropriate tools and products, cleansing and preparing the skin, through to designing a makeup plan and learning to professionally apply makeup.

Following artist prompts, students undergo timed, critiqued, individual assessments of a full makeup application on a model.

The creation of a compilation of artistic looks that reflect each artist’s niche area of advanced artistry and creative expression to be used for brand or individual marketing. Students will be assigned with developing photoshoot themes, inspiration collages that convey the desired message, choosing appropriate models, and coordinating with the photographer.

The examination of beauty through psychology, history, and culture. African American beauty will be highlighted as students explore the political, social, and cultural marginalization and separation from the dominant cultural narrative/ psychological standard of beauty. Topics covered include body imaging, beauty as self expression and empowerment, beauty as resistance, as well as historic standards of beauty in America and their role in psychological science as a construct.

After 1,000 education hours, students will engage in an externship or paid internship at an establishment or business approved by the Academy.
